ENGAGE hosts a special networking opportunity, reception and gourmet chocolate tasting designed to highlight the many health benefits of chocolate. Our presenter, Valerie Beck, will provide a sampling of various exotic chocolates from around the world ranging from ancient flavors to the most contemporary.

Ms. Beck describes her presentation and the chocolates she features as a trip through the world history of chocolate, without leaving your chair. During the lively and interactive presentation, you can test your knowledge of the health benefits of chocolate and of chocolate's wild history. For example, learn why 17th and 18th century doctors used to prescribe chocolate, whether the recently touted health benefits of chocolate are fact or myth, and whether chocolate really is an aphrodisiac. The chocolates presented will represent the versatility of chocolate, and will also highlight local women chocolatiers. Ms. Beck founded Chicago Chocolate Tours in 2005 to express her love for Chicago, her love for chocolate, and her love for people. Chicago Chocolate Tours takes locals and visitors to tried-and-true Chicago chocolate shop favorites, as well as chocolate boutiques and pastry shops that are tucked-away hidden treasures.

Ms. Beck and her team also provide seated chocolate tastings, multi-chocolatier gift baskets, and Chocolate of the Month Club memberships, and in 2008 they began offering Cocoa Cruises in the Mediterranean and New England. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Ms. Beck earned a BA from Harvard College and a JD from Harvard Law School and practiced as a lawyer in Europe and Chicago.
